AVI-SPL Provided AIA/CES Approved Training

AVI-SPL provides training approved through AIA/CES which meets the continuing education requirements for architects.

There are two unique one-hour courses available which can be taught during lunch and learn presentations or upon request for trade shows, conferences and other events. There is no cost for these training courses.

Courses Available

Programming AV Requirements for Projects

AIA Course Number: AVI1000A

This course provides guidelines for effective needs analysis development and project programming of A/V environments. It defines a step by step process for assuring that the client's application and utilization requirements are discovered, accurately defined and implemented into the design of the space.

Objectives:

  • Overcoming vocabulary confusion regarding A/V equipment and applications
  • Defining and prioritizing the clients application requirements
  • Helping the client define users and operators within his/her organization
  • Accurately defining funding allowances for complete A/V systems implementation

Infrastructure Requirements for AV Spaces

AIA Course Number: AVI1001A

This course is a systematic review of the infrastructure required for the proper installation of A/V systems. It defines the process for assuring that this infrastructure is identified and properly coordinated into the design and construction documentation for the project. It also identifies the various design disciplines that will be involved in this process and the scheduling of their contributions to the design process.

Objectives:

  • The definition of electrical service provisioning, conduit requirements, grounding requirements and the coordination of these elements into the design.
  • The definition of heating or cooling requirements for A/V equipment and the coordination of these requirements with the MEP engineer so that they can be included in the design.
  • Identification of architectural acoustical and mechanical noise impact on A/V environments as well as how to identify potential problems.
  • The identification of architectural elements that will be required to effectively implement A/V systems including millwork, ceiling and wall elements as well as ambient light control.

About AIA/CES

Architects are required in 30 states to complete Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) for re-licensure. AIA members must complete 18 CES Learning Units (LU's) each year, 8 hours of which must be related to Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) topics to remain in good standing. Most states that require MCE recognize AIA/CES as the primary source of professional development for their architects. This allows AIA members simply to present their AIA/CES transcripts (and non-AIA members Certificates of Completion) to licensing boards to satisfy state requirements.
